Abstract
Indian juvenile justice care system
is a key player in ensuring the protection, reform and rehabilitation of JYL.
The present study critically analyzes the evolution of juvenile justice
legislative, the causes of juvenile delinquency and effectiveness of the rehabilitation
mechanisms in India. The research method used is socio-legal and analysis,
which is obtained from primary and secondary data sources. Structured
questionnaires were used to gather the primary data from the legal
professional, social worker, Police officials, Academician and NGO
representatives. The result of statistical analysis showed that family
disintegration, poverty, peer pressure and social instability are all causes of
juvenile delinquency. The results also demonstrate that despite the principles
of rehabilitation and child protection in the Juvenile Justice Act, there are
issues in the institutions and in their implementation that hinder effective
reformation. The study says that for the better administration of juvenile
justice in India, the rehabilitation infrastructure will have to be
strengthened and community involvement and policy changes are needed.
